In January 1968 Mick bought his first special saloon, the so-called `Janglia` for £350 off Richard Scantlebury. Thus his long journey into the weird and wonderful world of modified car racing had begun. The car itself was a Ford Anglia 105E with and Jaguar twin-overhead camshaft straight six 3.8 ,hence the nickname. This first season with a special saloon soon turned into a baptism of fire as the car turned out to be a bit of a mess as it broke its Diff nine times . Hill improved the suspension set up during the season but decided a complete rebuild was needed at the end of the season.
"First the tatty old helmet I took along was rejected by the scrutineers.I got over that when Mike Bennion came over and lent me a good one, becoming a lifelong friend in the process. Then they got on to looking at the car. It failed on just about everything. I was devastated" - Mick Hill
The Janglia, or Jaglia as it was originally called was featured in Hot Car magazine, June 1968. Mike Berman was tasked with sorting out the cars many short comings. Berman had built his own notable special saloon, a Ford Pop called the Berpop.
1969 : Ford Anglia-Jaguar 'Janglia'
This was the scene on Mick`s Long Eaton back garden when the new Anglia shell was delivered.
March 1969 and Mick`s new look Janglia is chucked into Copse corner at Silverstone, Hill hardly visible through the side window. The car looks much smarter in its new body and more importantly many issues from the previous season had been ironed out. Note the drilled holes at the front, squares drilled out at each bottom corner of the front and new air intakes either side for the rear brakes. Janglia also seems to be running with some negative camber on the front wheels.
May 1969 and again at Copse corner at Silverstone , Hill corners hard to keep the ever-present gaggle of Mini`s behind him during this Nottingham Sports Car Club meet. The Janglia having lost it`s bonnet at some point during the race.

The 1970 season was Mick`s third and final with the Janglia and all the team`s hard work finally paid off with 3 outright race wins to establish Mick as part of the special saloon establishment. The Janglia looked alot like it did in 1969 but the tell tale sign to look for to distinguish it in photos is the absence of any front side lamps at either end of the Anglia`s wide mouth `smile`. Also the headlamp bezels have been removed.

Winning ways : above Hill shuts the door on John Watts at the Thruxton chicane June 7th 1970 during the Jaguar drivers club saloon race. When race leader Richard Longman lost his engine with a lap to go it was Hill who inherited the win by a whisker from the Mini. Pip Danby in the Escort V8 gives chase to finish 3rd. This was race win 2 of 3.
win number 3 was at Croft ,september 20th and what proved his last race in the Janglia as he sold it to Norman Hodgson within days to concentrate on his new Capri project.
